Why I’m Not Your Average Image Consultant

I’m an image consultant and personal stylist, but I don’t believe personal style is simply about looking good.

My approach combines image consulting with my background in Psychology to help women understand their colouring, proportions, personality, lifestyle and identity — and then use clothing to express who they already are.

In other words, I don’t just want to tell you what to wear.

I want to teach you how to Wear Who You Are™.

I don’t believe you need to become someone else to have great style

A lot of style advice is based on rules.

If you’re this body shape, wear this.
If you’re over a certain age, avoid that.
Hide this.
Draw attention to that.
Buy these wardrobe essentials.

Some of these guidelines can be useful. But I don’t believe they should become a formula that every woman has to follow.

You are not a body shape.

You are a whole person.

Your colouring, proportions, personality, lifestyle, preferences and stage of life all form part of the picture.

That’s why I don’t want to give you a wardrobe that looks like it belongs to a stylist.

I want to help you understand why certain clothes work for you — and why others don’t.

Once you understand that, you can make your own style decisions with confidence.

My psychology background matters

My background in Psychology influences the way I approach personal styling.

I understand that clothing isn’t purely visual. What we wear can affect how we feel, how we see ourselves and how we communicate with other people.

That’s why I don’t see a woman as a set of measurements that needs to be dressed correctly.

I see a person.

When we work together, we look beyond “Does this look good?”

We also consider:

  • Does this feel like you?
  • Does it suit your lifestyle?
  • Does it communicate what you want it to communicate?
  • Does it work with your natural features?
  • Will you actually enjoy wearing it?

Because sometimes the reason you have “nothing to wear” isn’t that you need more clothes.

You may simply not understand what works for you yet.

I believe style starts with identity

Before asking “What should I wear?”, I think it is worth asking:

“Who am I?”

What do you enjoy?

What matters to you?

How do you want to feel in your clothes?

How do you want to be perceived?

What suits your real life?

What makes you feel like yourself?

These questions help us move beyond fashion rules and towards personal style.

And this is where my philosophy, Wear Who You Are™, comes in.

What is Wear Who You Are™?

Wear Who You Are™ means understanding who you are and expressing that through what you wear.

Your personality, colouring, proportions, lifestyle, preferences and values all contribute to your personal style.

The goal isn’t to create a perfect wardrobe.

It is to create a wardrobe that makes sense for you.

I don’t believe in fixing women

This is one of the biggest differences in my approach.

The image industry can sometimes make women feel as though their bodies are problems to be solved.

Too big.
Too short.
Too straight.
Too curvy.
Too old.
Too something.

I don’t want to start there.

Your body isn’t a problem.

Your colouring isn’t a problem.

Your proportions aren’t a problem.

They are simply part of who you are.

Instead of asking:

“How can I hide this?”

I’d rather ask:

“How can I dress this body in a way that feels balanced, comfortable and authentically me?”

That’s a much more useful question.

I believe you were made with intention

My faith is part of how I see people, although you don’t need to share my faith to benefit from my approach.

I believe God created each of us intentionally.

Scripture describes us as fearfully and wonderfully made, and I believe that gives us a very different starting point for personal style.

Instead of beginning with everything we think is wrong with ourselves, we can begin with what we have been given.

Your proportions.

Your colouring.

Your personality.

Your strengths.

Your preferences.

Your life.

They are all part of the picture.

For me, personal style is about learning to work with who you were made to be, rather than constantly trying to become somebody else.

So what does an image consultant actually do?

An image consultant helps you understand how your natural features and personal characteristics can guide your clothing, colour and style choices.

This can include:

  • Colour analysis — understanding the colours that work with your natural colouring
  • Body shape and proportion analysis — learning which silhouettes and proportions create the effect you want
  • Style personality — identifying the clothing styles and visual elements that feel authentic to you
  • Wardrobe analysis — working out what works in your existing wardrobe and what is actually missing
  • Personal styling — putting all of this together into practical outfits and shopping choices

But there’s an important difference in how I approach these things.

I don’t want you to become dependent on my advice.

I want you to understand the principles well enough to make good decisions for yourself.

My Style Swatch: everything you need in one small box

One of the practical tools I’ve created to help women do exactly that is my Style Swatch.

I wanted to create something that would take the information from a colour consultation and turn it into something genuinely useful in everyday life.

So I spent 14 months developing it.

The result is a small, carefully designed box containing your colour information — small enough to carry in your handbag and take shopping with you.

Colour accuracy was particularly important to me. I didn’t want to create another generic colour card that was merely pretty to look at. The colours needed to be carefully selected and accurately represented so that they could actually help you make decisions when you’re standing in a shop trying to decide whether something is your colour.

Your Style Swatch gives you your colours, neutrals and other essential information in one compact tool.

All you need to know, in one small box.

Instead of relying on memory, guessing under shop lighting or taking a photo of a colour palette and hoping it is accurate, you can simply take your Style Swatch out of your handbag and compare.

Is this colour in my palette?

Does this neutral work for me?

Which of these options is closer to my best colours?

It puts the information in your hands.

And that’s important to me.

Because a consultation shouldn’t just be something you experience once and then forget about.

It should empower you to make better decisions on your own.

What makes my approach different?

I combine the practical side of image consulting with the human side of personal style.

So we look at:

Your natural features
Colouring, proportions, scale, shape and other visual characteristics.

Your personality
The styles that feel natural to you rather than simply looking good on paper.

Your lifestyle
Because a beautiful wardrobe that doesn’t work for your actual life isn’t a useful wardrobe.

Your preferences
You don’t have to wear something just because a style rule says it suits you.

Your identity
Your clothes should feel like an expression of you — not a costume.

That’s what Wear Who You Are™ is about.

It isn’t another set of fashion rules.

It’s a way of understanding yourself and making better style decisions.

Who is True to Your Style for?

I work primarily with women who are tired of feeling like they have “nothing to wear”, even though their wardrobes are full.

Maybe your body has changed.

Maybe your lifestyle has changed.

Maybe your clothes no longer feel like you.

Maybe you’ve spent years buying clothes because you liked them on somebody else, only to discover that they don’t work for you.

Or perhaps you’ve never really understood your personal style in the first place.

If that sounds familiar, you may not need more clothes.

You may need a better understanding of what works for you.

My goal isn’t to make you more fashionable

Fashion changes.

Your personal style doesn’t have to change every season.

My goal isn’t to turn you into someone who owns the latest trends or has a perfectly curated wardrobe.

My goal is much more practical.

I want you to be able to open your wardrobe and know what works.

I want you to understand why you like certain things.

I want you to know what to look for when you shop.

I want you to stop spending money on clothes that sit unworn in your cupboard.

And I want you to look in the mirror and recognise the woman looking back at you.

That’s what I mean by Wear Who You Are™.

Not dressing according to somebody else’s rules.

Not trying to hide yourself.

Not trying to become younger, thinner or more fashionable.

Just learning to understand what works for you — and wearing it with confidence.

If you’d like to understand your own colours, style personality, proportions and wardrobe more clearly, explore my Style & Colour Consultations or discover the Style Swatch — a practical tool designed to help you make confident colour decisions wherever you shop.

Because you don’t need to become someone else to have great style.
